The Benefits of DataWATCH

DataWATCH at Work
A manufacturing organization asked Emerge to help recover from a targeted ransomware attack that encrypted 500+ endpoints. DataWATCH played a critical role in recovering the data in days, rather than the standard weeks.

Continuous Data Protection as a Service
In addition to DataWATCH, Emerge offers Data Recovery as a Service, allowing you to swiftly recover your vital data in the event of an outage, disaster, or cyberattack. We’ll work with you to devise a data recovery plan that supports your RTO (Recovery Time Objective) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective) goals.

FAQs About Backup and Disaster Recovery: DataWATCH
A: Backup is the process of making copies of your data so you can restore individual files, databases, or systems if something goes wrong. Disaster recovery is the broader plan and capability to restore complete business operations after a major event such as a ransomware attack, fire, flood, or extended outage. Disaster recovery uses backups, but adds infrastructure, procedures, and tested workflows for full operational restoration.
A: DataWATCH protects data across public cloud, private cloud, and on-site storage environments. The service includes a SOC-audited offsite data center with 99.999% uptime, seamless cloud integration for virtual and physical backups, 24/7 expert management, regular recovery testing, and value-added pricing with no surprise licensing fees. Microsoft 365 protection is included.
A: DataWATCH uses immutable backups, which means once data is written, it cannot be altered or deleted for a set period. Combined with encryption, access controls, and geographically separate storage, this approach gives you a clean copy to restore from even if your production environment is encrypted by attackers. We also test recovery regularly so you know the restore will work when it matters.
A: The 3-2-2 rule is a modern interpretation of the NIST data governance standard. It calls for three copies of your data, stored on two different types of media, with two copies kept offsite. Today’s connectivity and public storage options make it practical to keep one offsite copy in the cloud and another in a different physical location, providing strong redundancy at a reasonable cost.
A: RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is how quickly you need systems and data back online after an incident. RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is how much data, measured in time, you can afford to lose between the last backup and the moment of disruption. Tighter RTOs and RPOs cost more, so DataWATCH is configurable to match your organization’s specific data situation.
A: Backups are written to Emerge’s secure, SOC-audited data center, with carrier-neutral connectivity, full power redundancy, and environmental protections. We can also extend protection to public cloud locations for additional geographic separation. For business-critical data, multiple copies live in different physical locations.
A: Recovery testing is a built-in part of DataWATCH, not an afterthought. We monitor systems continuously and conduct scheduled restoration tests to confirm backups are healthy and recoverable within your RTO and RPO targets. A backup that has never been tested is an assumption, and assumptions fail at the worst possible time.
A: Yes. Many organizations assume Microsoft 365 backs up their data automatically. It does not, at least not in the way most businesses need. If a bad actor or a careless user deletes important data, Microsoft does not necessarily have a way to restore it. DataWATCH extends backup coverage to your Microsoft 365 environment, including email, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
